another one down, a sign of the times
the end result from what started as a crime of the mind
taught wrong as a youth degrading advice
now the song is the truth and we’re all paying the price
the music is hatred and we’re all listening
it’s time to tune it out and find beauty in our differences
instead of denigrating we should be celebrating the variety of society
it’s devastating, we never hesitate to separate church and state
should be trying to separate the kids from the words of hate
that resonate in their ears, innocent years are spent crying secret tears
because the parents of peers apparently fear
what they don’t know or understand
and the life cycle repeats all over the land
man we’re here to learn, came here to grow in spirit
obviously forgot that we aint supposed to fear it
the only way we’re nearing the presence of God above
is to look at everyone and see nothing but love

love resides in us

it’s like the blind leading the blind, once upon these times
little Shawn was nine, his parents filling his mind
with intolerant thoughts, though he sought the light
he looked up to his parents cuz they were always right
taught to hate first and ask questions second
well one day out to play his ethics were beckoned
an innocent ride over the city river
he heard the screams of help so loud it made him shiver
up ahead he saw the bike tangled in a mess
and one of those “different” kids dangling from the ledge
his first reaction was the action to save him
started pedaling fast, but then he hesitated
remembered his dad saying these people don’t deserve to live
but now he’s confused cuz it seems absurd to him
what if it was your kid hanging from the bridge?
what would you want Shawn to do?

see no evil, hear no evil, spirit hold me I can feel the fear deep inside
if the way I perceived this world was through spirit only
would there no pain? would there be no hate? no sorrow no oppression
would we see the truth? who we really are – love
