The short story
I’m a little over 20 years deep into hip-hop. I’ve been into it since I first heard “Parents Just Don’t Understand” by DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince around ’88/89. Over time my taste for the genre has both soured and been refined. Undoubtedly there’s a ton of awful rap music out there, both in content and execution. But like anything else, it also has a beautiful side. You just don’t see it much because nobody is making millions from it.
My goal is to remind people that the beautiful side exists. Not only of hip-hop, but of life. We don’t have to be what “society” (for lack of a better term) wants us to be. We don’t have to buy what they’re selling or do what they say is popular. We can be better. We can be great. We can be beautiful.
